Launched on June 28th 2008, the large-scale colour and light installation is by Yuko Shiraishi, a London-based Japanese artist with an international reputation. She has worked on several high profile public art projects including one for the BBC buildings at White City and more recently at Moorfields Eye Hospital children’s ward.

For Regent’s Canal, Shiraishi has devised a simple but dramatic colour scheme using 11 different colours for the 70 metre-long brick wall, facing directly onto the west side of the Regent’s Canal adjacent to the Kingsland Basin, near to where she has had a studio for over 20 years.

Pedestrians, cyclists and canal-users will observe the changing nature of the work as it reacts to sunshine, evening light, rain and cloud, as well as the effect its reflection will have on the canal itself.

The project has been commissioned by Peer, a highly respected independent gallery and arts charity based in East London, in collaboration with The Shoreditch Trust, a local and award winning regeneration agency.
