Hi, I was after some advice, we have recently moved into a 1930’s house which has a wood panelled hall, and although we really like the panelling, it makes the hallway incredibly dark, after much consideration we have decided to paint the panelling white. I was wondering what would be the best paint for the job?

Thanks in advance for any advice you are able to offer.

    Hi Claire

You have several options for painting wood panelling – we’d recommend using Acrylic Eggshell (it has a very low sheen, is very robust and being water-based it’s very easy to use too). If you prefer a flatter finish then our Ultimatt Emulsion would be the thing to use. Either way, bear in mind that if the panelling is currently varnished you will need to prepare the surface with a light sanding and a coat of Acrylic Primer Undercoat. In terms of colour there are many options – our advice would be to choose a shade of white rather than brilliant white – which one depends very much on the rest of the room but look out for ‘Slaked Lime’, ‘Stock’ and ‘Joanna’ all of which are versatile and popular in these circumstances.
